What is it like building that dynamic and working on screen with Amy Brenneman?Įlliot Fletcher: It was awesome. In his brain, he is really doing the best he can to rebuild his family.Īs hard as he tries with his mother, it feels like he doesn't get back the same level of attention from her. He invests his time in her as much as he possibly can, so I think he's really a family guy. He has to play the middleman a little bit, and clearly his mom is the one that needs more attention and more help. I think he is so invested in helping specifically his mother, because his mother and father have very clearly different views on where Theresa is and what happened to her. I think he is really focused on rebuilding their family and remembering Theresa. In that first episode, in one of the first scenes, we get to see Jake and his father and mother sitting at their dinner table with Jake's therapist trying to work through this trauma of losing his sister and their daughter. I think he is sort of in this space, where he's trying to rebuild his family. How do you view his family dynamic?Įlliot Fletcher: As you said, Jake is a really sweet guy. Jake is such a sweet character, and he's well-adjusted considering the circumstances that his family has been through. Those were the three main elements that really drew me into the show. Because that is such an interesting idea, bringing in someone who has such a horrific past and who's seeking redemption. My involvement with John and my mother's involvement with him made me really want to see where that would go as well. The end of the episode also just throws you for a loop, so that that really drew me in.īut also, the character of John was very interesting to me. At the time I only had the one episode, so I was eager to know how that story would continue.

I think one of the things that drew me in is that Emma's storyline is so complex, and there's so many different ways her story could have gone. Elliot Fletcher: There are so many fantastic storylines.
